Research Workbooks:
- The purpose of the RWB is to encourage and record
personally driven research and discovery that function interactively with
studio work.
- The RWB should incorporate analytic al research
(critical and historical examination of art works and their contexts,
sketches, technological experimants, etc.) with discovery,
interpretation, media experiments, and the development of mature artistic
expression. It should contain both visual and verbal info and have the
appearance of a working journal.
- The research notebook is assessed along with studio
work in HL, and on its own in SL, option B.
It must show:
- persistence of research
- much experimentation
- reflection of a theme or prime area of interest
- cross cultural references
- studio and workbook interaction
- discussions of artistic motivation, why artists create,
why you create, self-expression, expression of spiritual states and anxiety,
neo-expressionism.
- discussions of the artist's role in society,
cross-cultural varients, social and religious functions of art.
- discussions of art education/training, business/means
of distribution.
The RWB will be reviewed once a cycle and should contain at
least several pages of thoughtful work each cycle. An 8"x11" hard covered book is best.
